Wilhelm Disbergen - Scenographer

Wilhelm Disbergen is a theatre set, costume, and lighting designer.

After obtaining his Masters degree in Dramatic Art, he designed nine productions in London including Salome and Foreskin's Lament.

He was an associate designer at the Royal National Theatre on Metropolis Kabarett, directed by Henry Goodman.

Back in South Africa, he co-designed the Sun City Extravaganza Afro-Dizzia, and has designed more than twelve productions for the Market Theatre alone. Highlights include Aint Misbehavin' (directed by artistic director Malcolm Purkey), and Silent Voice, his collaboration with director Aubrey Sekhabi (artistic director of the State Theatre) which will be going to Senegal in Dec 2010.

For the opera stage, he has designed Lucia di Lammermoor and Don Giovanni to great acclaim. For contemporary dance, he has designed seasons for the Jozi Dance Co. and the Tshwane Dance Theatre.

In 2009, he also designed the Mr. South Africa pageant. For the State Theatre he designed Paul Grootboom's Foreplay (with seasons all over Europe), and Aubrey Sekhabi's seminal Mantolo and Kalushi. A contemporary dance production titled Redha's Giselle by French choreographer Redha Benteifour has toured Botswana and will be at the Dance Umbrella 2011.

The Rivonia Trial, with a cast of 50 is transfering to the Market Theatre in 2011. E-Boyz, Eclipsed and DiniZulu are transferring to the State Theatre. Nipple Cap & G-Strings is currently still on. Peter and the Wolf is currently showing. Silent Voice performed at the National Theatre in Dakar in Dec 2010.
