Vincent - Costumier
Vincent of Dreamhouse’s career began at the age of 14.
Soon, after graduating, he became Design-Assistant for Berkeley Contemporary Opera for one year before taking over as Costume Designer for the next two years. His interest in costumes for classical opera (as opposed to contemporary) grew and in 1997 he decided to study haute couture, with the intention of applying the knowledge obtained to his costume design. For a moment, he thought of becoming an haute couture designer in Paris in the vein of Oscar de la Renta (being the only American haute couture designer in Paris), but his love for opera (and now ballet) was too great.
In 2001, he decided he had learnt enough from his research and ventured back into theatrical arts. He began designing productions for Diablo Ballet, Savage Jazz Dance, Shotgun Theater, Oakland Ballet (where he was also head of wardrobe for 3 years), Festival Opera, Berkeley Opera and Pacific Repertory Opera.
Among his specialties include his embroidery as well as the use of his brother’s (a bridal designer) beadwork.
A multi-talented man, Vincent is also an accomplished portrait photographer, creating many presentations of operas through photographs that he refers to as “mock-operas”, as well as photographing rehearsals. Through his photography, Vincent’s interest in directing began to emerge. He has directed models, actors, dancers and singers in photographic staging of operas such as “Roberto Devereux”, “Maria Stuarda” and “Lulu”. In addition to his pieces, he has also created many head shots for actors and singers.
